Streaming giant Netflix has finally published its second edition of 'What We Watched: A Netflix Engagement Report'. For the unversed, this particular list highlights viewership figures for various films and shows that streamed on the platform between July and December 2023. The first edition of the ‘What We Watched’ report had revealed that Rana Daggubati and Venkatesh Daggubati's 'Rana Naidu' was the most watched Indian title at the 336th spot. For the second edition of its report, Netflix has separated series from films. Kareena Kapoor Khan, Vijay Varma and Jaideep Ahlawat-starrer 'Jaane Jaan' is the most-watched Indian film in the second half of 2023. Overall, it is ranked at the 89th spot in the list.
It is important to mention that 'Jaane Jaan' has outperformed Wes Anderson’s Oscar-winning 'The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar', which finished at the 101st spot, and the Oscar-nominated film 'Nyad', which finished at number 124.
The top spot in the list is occupied by Julia Roberts-starrer paranoid thriller 'Leave the World Behind', with 121 million views. Alia Bhatt, Jamie Dornan and Gal Gadot-starrer 'Heart of Stone' is at the second spot with 109 million views.
The other major Indian films in the list are Shah Rukh Khan's 'Jawan' (number 136, with 16.2 million views), Vishal Bharadwaj's 'Khufiya' (number 200, with 12 million views), Akshay Kumar's 'OMG 2' (number 224, with 11.5 million views), 'Lust Stories 2' (number 318, with 9.2 million views), 'Dream Girl 2' (number 368, with 8.2 million views), and 'Curry & Cyanide: The Jolly Joseph Case' (number 370, with 8.2 million views).
When it comes to Indian shows on Netflix, Kay Kay Menon, Divyendu, Babil Khan and R Madhavan-starrer 'The Railway Men' is the most-watched Indian series with 11 million views. Overall, the show sits on the 146th position.
'Kohrra' is at the 278th position with 6.4 million views. Raj & DK’s 'Guns & Gulaabs' also registered the same number of views, and is placed at number 277. 'Kaala Paani' took the 318th spot with 5.8 million views.
It is important to mention that the list just deals with the second half of 2023 hence series like 'Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar', 'Maamla Legal Hai', and 'The Great Indian Kapil Show' aren't a part of the list. This is the same reason why the list does not have movies like 'Animal', 'Dunki', 'Laapataa Ladies' and 'Fighter'.
Netflix has also revealed that 9 per cent of all viewing came from Korean-language films and shows, with Spanish-language films and shows contributing 7 per cent of total viewing.
