'Animal', directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Triptii Dimri, Anil Kapoor and Bobby Deol, has emerged as one of the most successful movies of 2023. The new Hindi film, which released in theatres on December 1, 2023, is braving the competition from Shah Rukh Khan's 'Dunki' and Prabhas' 'Salaar: Part One - Ceasefire', and it has already made more than Rs 530 crore in India, across all languages.

However, one cannot deny the criticism 'Animal' has been receiving for glorifying toxic masculinity. Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga might have labelled the critics as "illiterate" and "uneducated", however, one cannot just ignore the criticism 'Animal' has been receiving for all the right reasons.

In the latest entertainment news, 'Ghoomer' actress Saiyami Kher has said that she belongs to the section which didn't quite warm up to 'Animal'.

During an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Saiyami said that if she has to watch a Ranbir Kapoor film, she would prefer to watch 'Rockstar' or 'Barfi' as Ranbir is the "best the country has”, but won't revisit 'Animal'.

“Personally, for me, I have been told very strongly do not tell your opinions, because nobody wants to hear that. But I was very triggered, very disturbed. Every director has the right to make everything that one wants, but somewhere, you have a responsibility towards people. Cinema has the power to influence people and I truly believe that, in the good and in the bad way," Saiyami Kher told Bollywood Hungama.

Saiyami Kher also said that she very well knows that cinema will have “dark and bad characters” but she chooses to draw the line when it comes to putting them on a pedestal.

“I personally don’t agree with the phenomenon of glorifying somebody who is a dark and bad character. With great power comes great responsibility, so I would consider that when working," said Saiyami Kher.

Saiyami Kher also said that the massive success of 'Animal' left her slightly puzzled.

“I was a little confused, because if this is what the country is watching, then where do I stand in this? It is not just men, it is women who are loving the film as well. He is a very talented filmmaker, because he has held your attention. But I was not a big fan of the way a lot of things were shown. I am not the biggest fan of that kind of cinema,” she added.

Earlier, in an interview with Galatta Plus, Sandeep Reddy Vanga said that the criticism does not bother him.

“Misogyny is the disrespect of women, that’s the actual definition. So, no. Even Kabir Singh, even Animal, even me as a person… I always feel my production company’s name is Bhadrakali Productions, I don’t know why people feel I disrespect (women). Not people, just these 15-20 jokers. It’s the wrong word to use (to describe) Kabir Singh and Animal,” he said.

“This too much of analysing and scrutinising films started of late, right," he added.
