Coming back to the T20 World Cup final, India opted to bat first, and posted 176/6 in the allotted twenty overs, owing to a 76-run knock from Virat Kohli.

Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and Hardik Pandya then put on a death bowling masterclass to help India register a win. Kohli was named Player of the Match while Bumrah was adjudged as Player of the Tournament.

After the T20 World Cup title win, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma announced their retirement from T20Is.

Speaking to the host broadcaster, Virat Kohli said, "This was my last T20 game playing for India. We wanted to lift that cup. Yes, I have (whether he is confirming his retirement), this was an open secret. Wasn't something that I was not going to announce even if we had lost. Time for the next generation to take the T20 game forward and do wonders as we have seen them do in the IPL."

On the other hand, Rohit Sharma announced his retirement during the post-match press conference. Speaking to reporters, he said, "This is my last game as well, no better time to say goodbye to this format. I’ve loved every moment of this. I started my career for India playing this format and this is what I wanted, I wanted to win the World Cup."
