Janhvi Kapoor made a dreamy Cannes debut in Tarun Tahiliani couture, with pearls and Sridevi-inspired elegance stealing the spotlight at the ‘Homebound’ premiere.
Bollywood actress Janhvi Kapoor made a dazzling first appearance at the 78th Cannes Film Festival, walking the red carpet for the premiere of her film ‘Homebound’. The moment marked a significant milestone in her career as she debuted at the prestigious international film festival alongside co-stars Ishaan Khatter and Vishal Jethwa. For her big Cannes debut, Janhvi Kapoor turned showstopper in a custom blush pink Tarun Tahiliani ensemble, which many fans believe was a heartfelt tribute to her late mother and actress Sridevi.
The couture look, designed by Tarun Tahiliani, fused Indian tradition with a modern sensibility. Crafted from real tissue fabric handwoven in Banaras, the outfit featured a structured corset and a voluminous pleated skirt. Styled by Rhea Kapoor, the ensemble was elevated with a delicate drape worn like a ghoonghat, lending it a regal Indian-princess vibe. The silhouette incorporated a “hand-crushing technique” that gave it “depth and texture”.
The look was completed with layers of pearl necklaces and minimal earrings, while Janhvi’s sleek low bun, dewy blush-toned makeup, and winged eyeliner pulled the look together flawlessly.
Fashion watchdog Diet Sabya drew a direct connection between Janhvi’s look and her legendary mother, captioning a post: “Janhvi channelling mother Sri for her first Cannes Red Carpet Lewk.”

Janhvi Kapoor wasn’t alone for her special moment. Karan Johar accompanied her at the premiere, while director Neeraj Ghaywan, Ishaan Khatter, and Vishal Jethwa were also seen leaving their hotel together for the screening. Their film, Homebound, has been selected for the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes. It also boasts Hollywood legend Martin Scorsese as its executive producer.
Ishaan Khatter brought his own fashion game to the carpet, donning a custom Gaurav Gupta outfit. His look featured a maroon velvet textured jacket, sharp black trousers, Gupta’s signature sculpted details, and a pair of statement black sunglasses – adding a contemporary edge to the ensemble.
