'Lord Of The Rings' actor Bernard Hill has died aged 79.

Bernard Hill, who is known for playing key roles in the 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy and 'Titanic', has died. He was 79. For the unversed, the actor played the role of King Theoden in 'Lord of the Rings' while he essayed the role of Captain Edward in Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet-starrer 'Titanic'. As per Variety, the veteran actor passed away on Sunday morning.

No cause of death has been given as of now. 

For the unversed, the actor first gained limelight after playing Yosser Hughes in Alan Bleasdale’s 1982 miniseries 'Boys From the Blackstuff'. 

Later that same year, he portrayed Sergeant Putnam in the Richard Attenborough-helmed 'Gandhi.' 

It was in 1997 that Hill played Captain Smith in James Cameron's 'Titanic', which won 11 Oscars. 

A few years later, he joined Peter Jackson's 'Lord of the Rings' franchise as King Theoden. He appeared in 2002's 'The Twin Towers' and 2003's 'The Return of the King'. 

The actor also essayed the role of Duke of Norfolk in the BBC miniseries 'Wolf Hall', which ended up winning the BAFTA for best drama series. 

For the uninitiated, the actor was born in Blackley, Manchester. 

Hill was married to the American-born actress Marianna Hill, with whom he had a son named Gabriel. The actor was also known to be an ardent supporter of Premier League club Manchester United.  

In 2019, Hill received an honorary degree from the University of East Anglia.

The actor's first movie role came in 1975 with 'It Could Happen To You', and he was last seen in 2023's 'Forever Young'.
