The Cannes Film Festival 2023 is around the corner, and the mega event will kick off on Tuesday (May 16). For the unversed, Cannes Film Festival acts as a showcase for the best movies and filmmakers around the world. Fans also eagerly wait to see their favourite stars walking on the red carpet. After having subdued versions in 2021 and 2022 due to Covid-19 pandemic, the festival is finally back in all its glory. The 76th Cannes Film Festival will open with the premiere of French movie 'Jeanne du Barry' starring Johnny Depp. 

This year's festival is headlined by Martin Scorsese’s 'Killers of the Flower Moon'. The new Hollywood movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro. James Mangold's 'Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny' will also be premiering at this year's event.

As many as 21 films are competing for this year's Palme d’Or and the jury for the award is led by last year’s winner, Swedish writer-director Ruben Ostlund. Out of these 21 movies, seven are helmed by female filmmakers. 

Projects such as HBO show 'The Idol' starring The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp, 'Firebrand' starring Alicia Vikander and Judd Law, and 'Elemental' will also be premiering at the Cannes Film Festival 2023.

The Cannes Film Festival will run till May 27.

Michael Douglas, Fatal Attraction and Wall Street fame, will also be receiving the Palme d’Or for his lifetime achievement at the 2023 festival.

India At Cannes Film Festival 2023

Anurag Kashyap's 'Kennedy' starring Rahul Bhat and Sunny Leone will be screened at the festival as a part of the Midnight Screenings section. 

Rahul Roy-starrer 'Agra' will be having its world premiere at the Directors’ Fortnight section of the Cannes Film Festival 2023. The new Hindi movie is about an exploration of sexual dynamics within a family.

Manipuri filmmaker Aribam Syam Sharma’s 1990 film, 'Ishanou' will also be screened at the Classic Section of the festival this year. This is the only Indian movie that has been shortlisted in the section of Cannes 2023.

Anushka Sharma will also be making her Cannes Film Festival debut and she would be honouring women in cinema along with Hollywood icon Kate Winslet.

The Festival de Cannes aka The Cannes Film Festival is held annually in Cannes, France. First held in 1946, the prestigious festival previews upcoming films of all genres, including documentaries, from all around the world.
