International Emmys 2025: Diljit Dosanjh Earns Best Actor Nod For ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’
Diljit Dosanjh earned his first International Emmy nomination for ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’.
Singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh has added another milestone to his career with his first-ever nomination at the International Emmy Awards 2025, marking a proud moment for Indian entertainment on the global stage. The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the nominations on Thursday. Diljit Dosanjh has been nominated in the Best Performance by an Actor category for his powerful portrayal in Imtiaz Ali’s Netflix biographical drama ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’.
Sharing his excitement on Instagram Stories, the singer-actor reposted the news and credited his director, writing, “It’s all because of @imtiazaliofficial sir” along with a heart-hand emoji. He also tagged Netflix India in his message of gratitude.
The actor will face strong international competition from David Mitchell (Ludwig), Oriol Pla (Yo, Adicto / I, Addict), and Diego Vasquez (One Hundred Years of Solitude). Adding to the celebrations, ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’ has also been nominated in the Best TV Movie/Mini-Series category, making it a double honour for the team.
Diljit Dosanjh’s co-star Parineeti Chopra joined in the celebrations, applauding both Diljit and Imtiaz Ali. On her Instagram Stories, she re-shared the announcement and wrote, “Proud of my team Chamkila,” tagging her co-star and director.
Directed by Imtiaz Ali and co-written with Sajid Ali, the film was released on Netflix on April 12, 2024. It narrates the life of Punjab’s legendary folk singer Amar Singh Chamkila, often dubbed the “Elvis of Punjab.” Chamkila became a sensation in the 1980s with his unapologetically bold lyrics and electrifying performances that resonated with the masses. However, his meteoric rise ended abruptly in 1988 when he and his wife, fellow singer Amarjot Kaur, were assassinated at the age of just 27. In the film, Parineeti Chopra plays Amarjot opposite Dosanjh.
The International Emmy nods further highlight the growing global recognition of Indian content. In recent years, India has made significant strides at the prestigious awards: Netflix’s Delhi Crime created history by winning Best Drama Series in 2020, while comedian Vir Das bagged an Emmy in 2021 for his Netflix special Vir Das: For India.
The winners of the 53rd International Emmy Awards will be announced at a grand ceremony in New York City on November 24, 2025, celebrating outstanding television productions from across the globe.
