The 2023 Emmy Awards have been postponed in light of the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes in Hollywood

Looks like viewers will have to wait a little longer to find out whether their favourite TV shows will be bagging any awards at Emmys 2023 as the ceremony has officially been postponed amid ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes in Hollywood. The Television Academy has also announced the new date for the upcoming Emmy Awards, which have been pushed from September 2023 to January 2024. Taking to Twitter, the Television Academy wrote, “Watch the 75th #Emmy Awards on Monday, Jan. 15, only on @FOXTV! #TelevisionAcademy.”

The ceremony, which celebrates the best in television each year, was originally set to be held at the Peacock Theater at L.A. Live in Los Angeles on September 18, but was postponed due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. The sister unions are still in the process of negotiating new contracts with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP).

The Television Academy and FOX jointly announced the new date with an official statement, reported People Magazine.

"As the Emmy Awards celebrates its 75th Anniversary, the show will broadcast live on FOX coast-to-coast from the Peacock Theater at LA Live and will honour the talented performers, writers, directors, and craftspeople whose work has entertained, inspired, and connected viewers across the globe throughout the past year," an official statement read.

As per People Magazine, the 2023 Emmys will air at 8 pm ET. It will follow the Creative Arts Emmy Awards that will take place over two nights on January 6 and January 7, 2024. Meanwhile, an edited presentation of the award ceremony will be aired on FXX on January 15, 2024, at 8 pm ET.

Jesse Collins will serve as this year's executive producer along with Dionne Harmon and Jeannae Rouzan-Clay of Jesse Collins Entertainment.

The decision to postpone the event was made after the Emmys had unveiled the 2023 nominations in July, which saw HBO series ‘Succession’, ‘The Last of Us’, and ‘The White Lotus’ leading this year's pack. Other hits including ‘Ted Lasso’, ‘The Mandalorian’, ‘Wednesday’, ‘Jury Duty’, ‘Beef’, ‘Andor’, and ‘The Bear’ also received multiple nominations. ‘Community’ star Yvette Nicole Brown and Television Academy Chairman and CEO Frank Scherma announced the nominees for the 2023 Emmys.

The announcement regarding postponement of Emmys 2023 came days after MTV announced the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards nominations with no changes to its previously scheduled air date of September 12.

Since the WGA began its strike on May 2 after the writers and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) failed to reach an agreement before their deadline, multiple celebrities across the world of television, film, and music have stood in solidarity, reported People Magazine.

As for how long the strikes will continue, SAG-AFTRA president Fran Drescher told People Magazine last month that "there's no way to predict" how long they will last.
