Musician Eric Carmen, a former Raspberries member, has died aged 74.

Eric Carmen, a former member of the Raspberries has died aged 74. For the unversed, Eric had become an icon of power pop as the frontman of the Raspberries. He then achieved even bigger hits as a solo artist in the 1970s and 80s. “It is with tremendous sadness that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Eric Carmen,” his wife, Amy Carmen, wrote on the singer’s website, as per Variety.

“Our sweet, loving, and talented Eric passed away in his sleep, over the weekend. It brought him great joy to know, that for decades, his music touched so many and will be his lasting legacy. Please respect the family’s privacy as we mourn our enormous loss. ‘Love Is All That Matters… Faithful and Forever'," she added.

The latter quote from Carmen's wife is a callback to the song 'Love Is All That Matters', from the singer's 1977 solo album 'Boats Against the Current'.

As of now, no cause of death or exact date of his passing has been announced.

During his initial days, Eric Carmen was known as the lead vocalist of the Raspberries. Carmen was the group's lead singer, and he wrote or co-wrote all their hit songs.

However, it was in 1975 that after the breakup of Raspberries, he started his solo career, de-emphasising harder rock elements in favor of soft rock and power ballads.

In the 1970s and 80s, Eric Carmen delivered many solo hit tracks such as 'All by Myself', 'Never Gonna Fall in Love Again', 'She Did It', 'Hungry Eyes', and 'Make Me Lose Control'.
