For the unversed, Matthew Perry starred in 'Friends' for 236 episodes over 10 seasons, from 1994 to 2004. The character of Chandler Bing mixed sweetness and sarcasm, and made Matthew Perry a fan favourite and a pop culture icon.
Apart from Matthew Perry, 'Friends' starred Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, Lisa Kudrow, and Matt LeBlanc as Rachel Green, Monica Geller, Ross Geller, Phoebe Buffay, and Joey Tribbiani, respectively.
As per Variety, Matthew Perry grappled with a long struggle with substance abuse and it stunted his career. The actor released a memoir in 2022 titled, 'Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing: A Memoir'. In the book, Matthew Perry opened up about his battle with substance abuse, and he tried to use his experience to help others stay sober.
“Hi, my name is Matthew, although you may know me by another name. My friends call me Matty. And I should be dead,” Matthew Perry wrote in the opening of 'Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing', as reported by Variety.
“I don’t write any of this so anyone will feel sorry for me — I write these words because someone else may be confused by the fact that they know they should stop drinking — like me, they have all the information, and they understand the consequences — but they still can’t stop drinking. You are not alone, my brothers in sisters," he added.
