It's Monday so we are back with the recap of 'House of the Dragon'. Before getting right to business, we would like to warn you that this is going to be a spoiler-filled article, and if you are yet to watch the episode, then we would ask you to refrain from reading further.
Now that we are done with the statutory warning, let's get into the details of the latest episode of 'House of the Dragon'. Before getting into the recap, let's just refresh your memory and tell you that Princess Rhaenys Targaryen was killed at the end of the fourth episode as she along with her dragon is ambushed by Prince Aemond (Ewan Mitchell) of Team Green. On the other hand, King Aegon II (Tom Glynn-Carney) was left badly injured after Aegon reduced him and his dragon Sunfyre — to a pile of smoking ash.
Now, here's what all happened in 'HOTD S2 Episode 5':
This week's episode showed us the aftermath of Rook's Rest. The episode opens with Criston Cole (Fabien Frankel) and his soldiers marching Meleys’ severed head through the streets, however, onlookers at the Kings Landing get terrified than impressed by the dead dragon. It is then that the soldiers bring in King Aegon II Targaryen (Tom Glynn-Carney) for medical treatment after he and his dragon Sunfyre were ambushed by his brother Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell) and his vicious dragon, Vhagar.
We are then shown how Aegon's armor has melted into his skin. Because of this injury to the king, Aemond is now next in line for the Iron Throne and becomes prince regent. He also leapfrogs his mother, Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke), and no surprise, that she isn’t happy about being skipped in the line of succession.
Across the sea, Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint) can be seen mourning the death of his wife Rhaenys, and Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) has to strategise after losing the blacks’ largest dragon.
We then travel to Harrenhal, Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) once again can be seen battling his haunting dreams. After being plagued by visions of young Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock) and his late wife Laena Velaryon (Nanna Blondell), this time he ends up dreaming of his mother Alyssa Targaryen.
The entire segments shows how Daemon harbors resentment over being the younger brother to King Viserys and having not claimed the Iron Throne for himself.
The episode ends with Aemond looking at the Iron Throne and Aegon lying pitifully in bed.
