Netflix Ends Password Sharing In India, Here's What Statement Says
Streaming giant Netflix on Thursday confirmed that it has ended password sharing in India.
Streaming giant Netflix on Thursday confirmed that it has ended password sharing in India. The company has announced that only the members of a household will now be able to access one account. The decision has been taken as a part of global crackdown which was announced in May 2023. "Everyone living in that household can use Netflix wherever they are - at home, on the go, on holiday - and take advantage of new features like Transfer Profile and Manage Access and Devices," the streaming giant said in a statement, as per NDTV.
Netflix has also stated that it has started the distribution of emails to customers who are sharing the streaming platform outside their household in India.
"We recognise that our members have many entertainment choices. It is why we continue to invest heavily in a wide variety of new films and TV shows - so whatever your taste, mood or language and whoever you are watching with, there is always something satisfying to watch on Netflix," it said.
As of now, household members can use Netflix at home, on the go, on holiday and take advantage of new features like Transfer Profile and Manage Access and Devices.
For the unversed, Netflix had imposed restrictions on password sharing in more than 100 countries including markets like the USA, Britain, France, Germany, Australia, Singapore, Mexico and Brazil.
This global crackdown has already helped Netflix add nearly 6 million subscribers, reported NDTV.
The company had finished the recently-ended quarter with a total of 238 million subscribers and a profit of USD 1.5 billion.
