Cillian Murphy To Return For 'Peaky Blinders' Movie
Cillian Murphy will be returning for the much-anticipated 'Peaky Blinders' movie.
Tommy Shelby is set to return. Yes, you read that right! 'Oppenheimer' star Cillian Murphy will be returning for the much-anticipated 'Peaky Blinders' movie. Speaking to Birmingham World at the premiere of his new BBC drama 'The Town', 'Peaky Blinders' creator Steven Knight has confirmed that the Oscar-winning actor will be reprising his fan-favourite role in the coming film version of the British crime drama.
Knight said that the actor is "definitely" coming back and the filming for the movie will begin later this year.
"He definitely is returning for it. We’re shooting it in September just down the road in Digbeth," Knight was quoted as saying by Variety.
However, this development should not be coming as a shock to anyone as Cillian Murphy has always been vocal about starring in a 'Peaky Blinders' film as long as the script was worthy enough.
“If there’s more story there, I’d love to do it. But it has to be right. Steve Knight wrote 36 hours of television, and we left on such a high. I’m really proud of that last series. So, it would have to feel legitimate and justified to do more," Murphy had told Rolling Stone UK last year.
For the unversed, 'Peaky Blinders' had originally premiered on BBC Two overseas, but after the show arrived on Netflix, the series became a worldwide phenomenon.
The series finale aired in 2022, but Knight never hid his intentions to continue the story in a movie.
"The film, I know exactly what it’s about. And I know what two stories it’s going to tell. What will happen after that, I want that to depend on the film. For all we know somebody is going to pop out – I think I know who it’s going to be," the creator told Esquire before the series finale aired.
Talking about Cillian Murphy, the actor recently won an Oscar for his performance in Christopher Nolan's 'Oppenheimer'. This was the first time that Murphy won an Academy Award.
Christopher Nolan also won the Best Director for 'Oppenheimer', while Robert Downey Jr picked up the Best Supporting Actor accolade for his role in the film, that released last year.
