"No Ken Without Barbie": Oscars 2024 Nominee Ryan Gosling Reacts To Margot Robbie And Greta Gerwig's Snub
Oscars 2024: Ryan Gosling has expressed his disappointment that 'Barbie' lead actor Margot Robbie and director Greta Gerwig were snubbed.
The nominations for the 96th Academy Awards were announced on Tuesday evening. As expected, Christopher Nolan's 'Oppenheimer' dominated as the film based on the life of scientist J Robert Oppenheimer, received 13 nods. Ryan Gosling also ended up receiving a nomination in the Best Supporting Actor category for his performance as Ken in 'Barbie'. In the latest entertainment news, Gosling has reacted strongly to 'Barbie' lead star Margot Robbie and director Greta Gerwig, being snubbed at the nominations.
For the unversed, Gosling played Ken in the satirical comedy while Margot Robbie starred as Barbie along with also producing the film.
“I am extremely honored to be nominated by my colleagues alongside such remarkable artists in a year of so many great films. And I never thought I’d being saying this, but I’m also incredible honored and proud that it’s for portraying a plastic doll named Ken,” Gosling said in his statement, as reported by Variety.
“But there is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no ‘Barbie’ movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally celebrated film," he added.
The entire world is talking about the omissions of Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie from the director and leading actress categories.
“No recognition would be possible for anyone on the film without their talent, grit, and genius. To say that I’m disappointed that they are not nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement,” Gosling said.
“Against all odds with nothing but a couple of soulless, scantily clad, and thankfully crotchless dolls, they made us laugh, they broke our hearts, they pushed the culture and they made history. Their work should be recognized along with the other very deserving nominees. Having said that, I am so happy for America Ferrera and the other incredible artists who contributed their talents to making this such a groundbreaking film," he added.
'Barbie' has been nominated in the Best Picture category while the film has also scored a nod in the Best Adapted Screenplay category.
America Ferrera has also received a nomination in the Best Supporting Actress category for her performance in 'Barbie'.
Talking about Ryan Gosling, he is nominated alongside Sterling K Brown (American Fiction), Robert De Niro (Killers of the Flower Moon), Robert Downey Jr (Oppenheimer), and Mark Ruffalo (Poor Things).
Oscars 2024 will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel for the fourth time, and the event will be held on March 10 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
In India, the ceremony will be broadcast during the early hours of March 11 due to the time difference.
