Robert Downey Jr. won his first Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Christopher Nolan's 'Oppenheimer'. In the latest entertainment news, the Oscars 2024 win completed an award season sweep for the 'Iron Man' star, having previously won accolades at the Golden Globes, Critic’s Choice Awards, SAG Awards, and BAFTA Film Awards. Displaying his wit, Robert Downey Jr's speech was also one for the ages.

In his acceptance speech, Robert Downey Jr said, "I’d like to thank my terrible childhood and the Academy — in that order. I’d like to thank my veterinarian — I meant wife, Susan Downey over there. She found me a snarling rescue pet and you loved me back to life. That’s why I’m here.”

The actor also thanked 'Oppenheimer' director Nolan and actors Cillian Murphy and Emily Blunt.

“Here’s my little secret. I needed this job more than it needed me. Chris knew it. Emma made sure that she surrounded me with one of the great casts and crews of all time — Emily, Cillian. It was fantastic. And I stand here before you a better man because of it. What we do is meaningful, and the stuff that we decide to make is important," said the actor.

“My entertainment lawyer Tom Hanson, of 40 years, the half of which he spent trying to get me insured and bailing me out of the hoosegow — thanks, bro,” he added.

For the unversed, the Oscars 2024 are taking place at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood.

The Best Picture category includes nominations for films like 'Oppenheimer', 'American Fiction, 'Anatomy of a Fall', 'Barbie', 'The Holdovers', 'Maestro', 'Past Lives', 'Killers of the Flower Moon' and 'The Zone of Interest'.
