'Parasite' Actor Lee Sun-kyun Dies Aged 48
'Parasite' actor Lee Sun-kyun has died aged 48.
South Korean actor Lee Sun-kyun, who is known for his role in the 2020-Oscar winning movie 'Parasite', died Wednesday morning, as per Associated Press and the South Korean news agency Yonhap. The actor was aged 48. As per news agency Associated Press, the actor was found dead in a car in a central Seoul park. Police were looking for the actor after his family claimed that he wrote a suicide note and left home early on Wednesday.
Lee is survived by his wife, actress Jeon Hye-jin, and their two children.
For the unversed, the actor had recently been under police investigation for alleged illegal drug use, as per Variety.
South Korea’s Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency was investigating Lee and seven other people over alleged drug use. When the reports surfaced, the actor claimed to be the victim of blackmail by another person.
As per Yonhap, police questioned Lee three times, as recently as last Saturday, for his alleged use of marijuana and other drugs.
For the unversed, Lee played the role of Park Dong-ik in 'Parasite'. He essayed the role of a father of the wealthy Park family who ends up hiring members of the scamming, lower-class Kim family into his home to help with his children and run his household.
'Parasite' ended up winning four Academy Awards, including best picture, director for Bong Joon-ho, original screenplay and international feature film for South Korea.
The film also won Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, becoming the first South Korean film to do achieve the honor.
Lee also acted in Apple TV+ series 'Dr. Brain', its first South Korean series, and was nominated for best actor at the 2022 International Emmy Awards.
He has also starred in South Korean films like 'Payback', 'Diary of a Prosecutor', 'My Mister' and 'Kingmaker'.
