'The Idol' continues to receive flak from all corners. Here is more on the latest controversy.

HBO's latest offering 'The Idol' released on June 4, and if the higher officials at the company were expecting that the show would manage to achieve the fandom of marquee shows like 'Succession', 'Game of Thrones', 'House of the Dragon', and 'Chernobyl', how wrong were they? The show has not managed to garner positive reviews, nor the show is raking up the viewership numbers. As per a report in Variety, 'The Idol' episode 2 which premiered on June 11 clocked in just 8,00,000 viewers on Sunday, and it was 12 per cent down from the series premiere.

The show, however, has managed to stay consistent in one department, and that is controversies. Now, in the latest entertainment news, the users are slamming the show makers, Lily Rose-Depp and the Abel 'The Weeknd' Tesfaye for an explicit sex scene.

For the unversed, the show, since its debut at Cannes Film Festival 2023, has been embroiled in a controversy for depicting an "exploitative and misogynist attitude" towards women, reported the Independent. Another publication British GQ released an article on the show, saying: "The Idol just gave us the worst sex scene in history."

Here are some of the Twitter reactions regarding 'The Idol':

Apart from The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp, the show also stars Dan Levy, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Eli Roth, Hari Nef, Jane Adams, Jennie Ruby Jane, Mike Dean, Moses Sumney, Rachel Sennott, Ramsey, Suzanna Son, and Hank Azaria.

'The Idol' has been made by the creators of another HBO smash-hit 'Euphoria' starring Zendaya. The show has also been created by Abel "The Weeknd" Tesfaye, Reza Fahim, and Sam Levinson.

The principal photography for the show began in November 2021 in and around Los Angeles, California.

The production was temporarily paused in April 2022 due to The Weeknd co-headlining the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival with Swedish House Mafia on short notice.
