RIP Chandler Bing! 'Friends' Star Matthew Perry Dies Aged 54
'Friends' star Matthew Perry has died.
Actor Matthew Perry, who is known for playing the role of Chandler Bing in the uber-popular series 'Friends', has died. He was aged 54. As per the Los Angeles Times, Matthew Perry was found dead Saturday in a hot tub at this home. The authorities found him unresponsive around 4 PM, and there were no signs of foul play or drugs on the scene. For the unversed, Perry had gained worldwide recognition for his role as Chandler Bing on 'Friends'.
'Friends' ran for ten seasons from 1994 to 2004. He had also earned an Emmy nomination in 2002 for his performance.
Apart from Matthew Perry, 'Friends' stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, Lisa Kudrow, and Matt LeBlanc as Rachel Green, Monica Geller, Ross Geller, Pheobe Buffay, and Joey Tribbiani.
As per Variety, Perry grappled with a long struggle with substance abuse and it stunted his career.
The actor had released a memoir in 2022 titled, 'Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing: A Memoir'. In the book, Perry opened up on his battle with substance abuse, and he tried to use his experience to help others stay sober.
“Hi, my name is Matthew, although you may know me by another name. My friends call me Matty. And I should be dead,” Perry wrote in the opening of 'Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing', as reported by Variety.
“I don’t write any of this so anyone will feel sorry for me — I write these words because someone else may be confused by the fact that they know they should stop drinking — like me, they have all the information, and they understand the consequences — but they still can’t stop drinking. You are not alone, my brothers in sisters," he added.
Matthew Perry's personal life also made headlines in the past. He dated the likes of Julia Roberts, Selma Blair, Lizzy Caplan and the late Jamie Tarses.
Apart from 'Friends', Matthew Perry starred in projects like 'Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip', 'Go On','Mr. Sunshine' and a remake of Neil Simon’s enduring 'The Odd Couple'.
Perry had also scored two Emmy nominations in 2003 and 2004 for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his role as Joe Quincy in 'The West Wing'.
