Warner Bros. Announce New 'Matrix' Movie, Film To Be Directed By Drew Goddard
Warner Bros is going back to the 'Matrix' and the fifth installment of the uber-popular franchise will be coming out very soon.
Warner Bros is going back to the 'Matrix' and the fifth installment of the uber-popular franchise will be coming out very soon. As per Variety, the studio has announced that a fifth 'Matrix' movie is currently in development. However, this will be the first installment without Lana or Lily Wachowski as directors. It has been confirmed that 'The Martian' screenwriter Drew Goddard will be handling filmmaking duties.
As per Variety, he will also be writing the script and he will also be producing the film with his partner at Goddard Textiles, Sarah Esberg.
Lana Wachowski, who had helmed the 'Matrix Ressurections' movie in 2021 will be attached to the project as an executive producer.
However, it is not known who from the 'Matrix' universe, will be returning for the upcoming movie. For the unversed, Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss have anchored all of the prior movies as Neo and Trinity.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jonathan Groff, Neil Patrick Harris and Priyanka Chopra Jonas had earlier joined in the most recent iteration.
We also don't know the plot details as yet but Warner Bros. Motion Pictures president of production Jesse Ehrman has teased that the story will be advancing the fantasy world without straying too far from what made the series a global success.
“Drew came to Warner Bros. with a new idea that we all believe would be an incredible way to continue the Matrix world, by both honoring what Lana and Lilly began over 25 years ago and offering a unique perspective based on his own love of the series and characters,” Ehrman said in a statement, as per Variety.
“The entire team at Warner Bros. Discovery is thrilled for Drew to be making this new ‘Matrix’ film, adding his vision to the cinematic canon the Wachowskis’ spent a quarter of a century building here at the studio," he added.
