Sean Paul has made a startling revelation about his famous songs.

Ever had a moment where you were humming the lyrics of a song for years, but eventually found out you were singing the song all wrong all? You are in for another such moment as Sean Paul on Wednesday revealed that he does not call himself 'Sean da Paul' as supposedly heard in popular tracks such as 'Get Busy' and 'Temperature'.

On Wednesday, the official YouTube handle of 'Vice', uploaded a video titled 'The Story Of Sean Paul's Get Busy', in which the singer spoke about how the song was made and how his second album 'Dutty Rock' became a make-or-break opportunity to prove that dancehall beats could transcend culture and break into pop mainstream.

In the closing moments of the video, Sean Paul explains how he actually references former West Indies left-handed batter Shivnarine Chanderpaul, whose name sounds very similar to himself.

"There’s a famous cricketer in the Caribbean called Shivnarine Chanderpaul. Everyone was like Sean da Paul and that name stuck. Then I just started to say it in shows and met the dude Chanderpaul years later and he’s like Yo! But yeah, big up to Shivnarine Chanderpaul," Sean Paul said in the video.

This revelation to many users to express disbelief on Twitter, and one of them even said: "I have been living a lie for more than 20 years."

Sean Paul is a Jamaican rapper and singer who is regarded as one of dancehall's most prolific artists.

His songs 'Get Busy' and 'Temperature' topped the Billboard Hot 100 charts in the United States and most of his albums have been nominated for the Grammy's Best Reggae Album.

Sean Paul has also featured in many other singles including chart-toppers 'Baby Boy' with Beyonce, 'What About Us' by The Saturdays, 'Rockabye' by Clean Bandit, and 'Cheap Thrills' by Sia.
