Watch: Star Wars Fans Go Crazy As Disney Unveils “Real” Lightsaber
Disney debuted a “real” retractable lightsaber at SXSW over the weekend and it’s fair to say Star Wars fans went absolutely bonkers.
Disney Parks and Experiences chairman Josh D'Amaro has given Star Wars fans a reason to be ecstatic with a look at the "real" lightsaber. Josh D'Amaro also spoke about a presentation at SXSW, and it was then that he gave the attendees a close look at the "real" lightsaber. For the unversed, the lightsaber is the most iconic weapon in the Star Wars franchise. At the SXSW event, Josh D'Amaro pushed a button and a very real-looking blue lightsaber blade seemed to spring out of the hilt of the instrument he was holding in his hand, reported Deadline.
“I have the coolest job in the world. I’m holding a real lightsaber," Deadline quoted D'Amaro as saying.

D'Amaro then brought Leslie Evans on stage, who runs R&D for Disney Imagineering.
“This was a hard project. This was not easy," said Evans.
D’Amaro then said, “I love firing this thing up,” before hitting the button again.
