Disney debuted a “real” retractable lightsaber at SXSW over the weekend.

Disney Parks and Experiences chairman Josh D'Amaro has given Star Wars fans a reason to be ecstatic with a look at the "real" lightsaber. Josh D'Amaro also spoke about a presentation at SXSW, and it was then that he gave the attendees a close look at the "real" lightsaber. For the unversed, the lightsaber is the most iconic weapon in the Star Wars franchise. At the SXSW event, Josh D'Amaro pushed a button and a very real-looking blue lightsaber blade seemed to spring out of the hilt of the instrument he was holding in his hand, reported Deadline.

“I have the coolest job in the world. I’m holding a real lightsaber," Deadline quoted D'Amaro as saying.

During the event, he also explained that he was holding one of the lightsabers used onboard Disney’s ultra-expensive Galactic Starcruiser experience.

D'Amaro then brought Leslie Evans on stage, who runs R&D for Disney Imagineering.

“This was a hard project. This was not easy," said Evans.

D’Amaro then said, “I love firing this thing up,” before hitting the button again.

For the unversed, 'Star Wars' is a space opera multimedia franchise created by George Lucas, which began with the 1977 film and it then quickly became a worldwide pop culture phenomenon.

The franchise has since been expanded into various films and other media, including television series, video games, novels, comic books, theme park attractions, and themed areas.

'Star Wars' is one of the highest-grossing media franchises of all time. All nine films of the "Skywalker Saga" were nominated for Oscars, with wins going to the first two releases.

The combined box office revenue of the 'Star Wars' films equated to over USD 10 billion.
