HBO has ordered a new ‘GOT’ prequel series titled ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight’.

After ‘House of the Dragon’ and ‘Game of Thrones’, fans are in for another treat. HBO has ordered a new ‘GOT’ prequel series currently titled ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight’. The announcement was made during a Warner Bros press conference. The ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel, which is based on George R.R. Martin’s ‘Dunk and Egg’ books, will be set nearly a century before the events of ‘Game of Thrones’, as per The Hollywood Reporter.

The upcoming HBO show will follow the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and a young Aegon V Targaryen (Egg) 90 years prior to the events of ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’.

The official logline stated, “A century before the events of ‘Game of Thrones’, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”

George R.R. Martin will serve as writer and executive producer, as will Ira Parker, who was a co-executive producer on Season 1 of ‘House of the Dragon’.

‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘House of the Dragon’ veterans Ryan Condal and Vince Gerardis will serve as executive producers.

George R.R. Martin has published three novellas in the ‘Tales of Dunk and Egg’ series to date: ‘The Hedge Knight’ in 1998, ‘The Sworn Sword’ in 2003 and ‘The Mystery Knight’ in 2010. The three tales were then collected and published together as ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ in 2015.

The first ‘GOT’ prequel ‘House of the Dragon’ premiered its first season in August 2022, earning a Season 2 renewal less than a week after it launched. The second season is currently in production.

Apart from the ‘GOT’ prequel series, it was also announced that the combined HBO Max and Discovery+ streaming service will be known simply as Max.
