Revealed! Will Smith’s First Movie Since Oscars Controversy
Will Smith, who has kept a relatively low profile after the 2022 Oscars controversy, is returning to the big screen with his upcoming Hollywood movie ‘Emancipation’.
Hollywood star Will Smith, who was embroiled in a controversy after he slapped comedian Chris Rock during Oscars 2022, has since kept a relatively low profile. The Oscar-winning actor was hit with a 10-year ban from attending the Academy Awards after the altercation. In a bid to revive his career since the ordeal, he is making his return to acting with his upcoming Hollywood movie titled ‘Emancipation’.
The teaser of Will Smith’s historical drama was released in October 2022 and the Hollywood movie is set to hit theatres in December 2. After its theatrical release, ‘Emancipation’ will stream on Apple TV+ starting December 9.
Will Smith had shared the teaser and official poster of his Hollywood movie on Instagram. Along with unveiling the teaser, Will Smith wrote, “This was the hardest movie I’ve ever made. Blood, Sweat & Tears… LITERALLY! Shoutout to Apple who doubled (and tripled) down on their commitment to deliver this epic story to the world. Here’s the first peek. #Emancipation in theaters 12/2, streaming on @appletvplus 12/9. And to everybody who has been supporting me these last few months, I appreciate y’all!”
Smith has stayed away from the spotlight after the altercation with Chris Rock at the Oscars. Will Smith had taken home an Oscar for his performance in the 2021 sports drama ‘King Richard’ just minutes after, he had marched on to the stage and slapped Chris Rock for making a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair loss condition, Alopecia.
Will Smith made a public apology shortly after the Oscars debacle, and released an emotional video on social media about it in July, offering to meet with Rock whenever he’s ready to talk. The 53-year-old Hollywood actor also resigned his membership with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. But the organization did not revoke his best actor Oscar, and his decade-long ban from attending the award ceremony does not prevent him from being nominated for Oscars.
Will Smith is currently gearing up for the release of ‘Emancipation’ and has been actively promoting the upcoming historical drama. Smith recently hosted an intimate screening of ‘Emancipation’ for some of his closest friends and Hollywood A-listers.
