Here's all you need to know about Uttar Pradesh's new Digital Media Policy, 2024.

The Uttar Pradesh State Cabinet has approved a path-breaking Uttar Pradesh Digital Media Policy, 2024. The new policy has been prepared by the state information department. As per the Principal Secretary, the information department, Sanjay Prasad, the UP government has also decided to list agencies or firms to give advertisements for promoting them for making and displaying content/tweets/videos/posts/reels about schemes and achievements of the state government on online platforms like X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. In the official statement, Prasad also said that the approval of the policy will now "help provide employment to the residents of Uttar Pradesh living in other parts of the country and even abroad."

The department has also categorised the influencers/agencies/firms into four categories on the basis of subscribers/followers.

As per the category, influencers on X, Facebook, and Instagram will be paid a maximum of Rs 5 lakh, Rs 4 lakh, Rs 3 lakh, and Rs 2 lakh, respectively per month,

The policy also states that the payment for videos/shorts/podcasts on YouTube has been defined on the basis of the subscribers/followers and it will be Rs 8 lakh, Rs 7 lakh, Rs 6 lakh, and Rs 4 lakh, respectively, per month. 

As per Indian Express, the policy also has a provision for taking legal action against agencies/firms if they upload any “objectionable content” on platforms such as Facebook, X, Instagram, and YouTube.

It has also been made clear that the content "should not be indecent, obscene or anti-national."
