HBO series ‘Westworld’ fans are distraught over the sudden cancellation of the critically acclaimed sci-fi series after its fourth season came to an end. HBO made the announcement recently stating that the fantasy drama would not be returning with a new season. The news came just under three months after the series aired its Season 4 finale on August 14. ‘Westworld’, created by husband-and-wife producing duo Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, first aired in October 2016 and ran for four seasons on HBO.

Upset fans took to Twitter to express their disappointment over the cancellation of the fantasy drama series, which has been nominated for 54 Emmys and bagged nine wins, including Newton’s trophy for outstanding supporting actress in a drama series in 2018.

“Westworld deserved a fifth and final season,” wrote a fan, alongside an image of ‘Westworld’ star Evan Rachel Wood.

#SaveWestworld also trended heavily on Twitter with ‘Westworld’ fans extending their support for the show. Fans have also been pushing HBO to overturn its decision with online petitions demanding the network to bring back the series for one last season.

While the first two seasons received immense praise, the show witnessed a downfall in ratings and viewership with the third and fourth seasons, as per Variety.

Based on the 1973 film of the same name written by Michael Crichton, the dystopian sci-fi series revolved around the titular technologically advanced amusement park filled with A.I. hosts in a wild west setting.

The HBO series starred Evan Rachel Wood, Thandiwe Newton, Ed Harris, Jeffrey Wright, Tessa Thompson, Luke Hemsworth, Aaron Paul, Angela Sarafyan and James Marsden. Newcomers for the fourth season included Ariana DeBose, Aurora Perrineau and Daniel Wu.
