'House Of The Dragon' Finale Becomes Biggest HBO Season Finale Since ‘Game Of Thrones’
The ‘House Of The Dragon’ Season 1 finale has recorded the highest viewership for a HBO season finale since ‘Game Of Thrones’ came to an end in 2019.
The 'House Of The Dragon' season 1 came to an end on October 23 and the final episode recorded the highest viewership for a season finale of any HBO show since 'Game Of Thrones' concluded in 2019. As per Variety, the 'House Of The Dragon' Season 1 finale recorded 9.3 million viewers. This includes both linear viewers that manage to watch the episode during its four airings on HBO's cable channel and HBO Max streams.
As a result, the season finale titled 'The Black Queen' became HBO's most-watched final episode since 'Game Of Thrones'.
It is important to mention that 'House Of The Dragon' registered 10.2 million viewers for Episode 2, as per Variety. 'House Of The Dragon' is based on George RR Martin's 2018 novel ‘Fire And Blood’.
The show is set 200 years before the events that transpired in 'Game Of Thrones' and it tells the story of what really happened with House Targaryen. Season 1 has also shown few time-jumps and different actors have portrayed the same character, in an attempt to show them ageing.
Martin is the one who co-created the show with Ryan Condal, who is serving as the series co-runner with director Miguel Sapochnik. The first season of 'House Of The Dragon' premiered on August 21, 2022. The finale episode featured an anticipated showdown between prince Aemond and Lucerys, who is Rhaenyra Targaryen’s son.
It is also important to mention that Sapochnik departed the show after season 1 wrapped production and Condol will now take the show running duties for Season 2.
