"Badtameez Film": 12th Fail Actor Bashes Ranbir Kapoor's 'Animal'
Educator and civil servant Vikas Divyakirti, who played himself in the hit film '12th Fail', has now given his take on 'Animal', saying the film should not have been made.
Sandeep Reddy Vanga's 'Animal', starring Ranbir Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Bobby Deol, Triptii Dimri and Anil Kapoor, was released in cinemas in December 2023, however, the film continues to dominate the social media discourse. Ever since its premiere on Netflix in January 2024, the film has been viewed a lot more people worldwide, and several users continue to point out the problematic themes depicted in the movie.
In the latest Bollywood celebrity news, educator and civil servant Vikas Divyakirti, who played himself in the hit film '12th Fail', has now given his take on 'Animal', saying the film should not have been made.
Appearing on Neelesh Misra’s Slow Interview series, the '12th Fail' actor called 'Animal' "fuhad and badtameez" film.
"A film like Animal takes our society back by 10 years. A film like this should not be made. You earned money. You showed that your hero behaves like an animal. There should be some social value, or are people working only for financial value," he said.
The '12th Fail' actor also gave his take on the controversial scene in 'Animal', where Ranbir’s character, Vijay, asks Tripti Dimri’s character Zoya to lick his shoe to prove her love for him.
“After watching the film, what if some boys who are of a feudal mindset and are not that mature want to test their girlfriend’s love by asking them to lick their shoe, what then? Itni fuhad aur badtameez film hum bana rahein hai then it is very sad but both kind of forces are always there in the world," he said.
For the unversed, Vikas Divyakirti is best known as the founder of an IAS coaching institute. He played himself in '12th Fail', which was directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. He is also credited as one of the writers of '12th Fail'.
Speaking of 'Animal', the movie was bashed for portraying toxic masculinity, and the makers were also accused of glorifying misogyny. Despite negative reviews, 'Animal', went on to do a business of more than Rs 900 crore worldwide.
In India, the movie emerged as one of the biggest box-office hits of 2023, as it collected more than Rs 500 crore.
