Kathmandu mayor Balen Shah has threatened to ban all Hindi films in the region if a dialogue from 'Adipurush' is not changed.

'Adipurush' starring Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, Sunny Singh, Saif Ali Khan and Devdatta Nage released in theatres on Friday (June 16). However, upon its release, the Om Raut-directorial has landed in trouble after Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah's open threat of banning all Hindi films in the region if a dialogue from the movie is not changed. The Mayor of Kathmandu has alleged that the movie includes a dialogue in which Sita is described as “daughter of India”.

In his tweet, Balen Shah said that Sita is considered the daughter of Nepal and he gave the producers of 'Adipurush' three days to alter this line, if they want the movie to be released as per schedule in Nepal.

On Friday, local media in Nepal reported that the screenings of 'Adipurush' were being cancelled in order to maintain law and order. The local media, however, is also reporting that T-Series has complied with the demands after which the movie was passed by Nepal's censor board.

Nepalese cinema chain OFX Cinemas was quoted by IANS as saying, “Keeping the security of our viewers, QFX is not going to show Adipurush… We are waiting for the government’s decision. As soon as this issue is resolved, we will issue another notice and apologise for the inconvenience to our viewers.”

Talking about 'Adipurush', Prabhas is playing Lord Ram, Kriti Sanon is essaying the role of Sita while Saif Ali Khan is portraying Raavan (Lankesh).

Earlier, the makers of 'Adipurush' had confirmed that the new Hindi movie would premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on June 13. However, as per reports, the movie was not played at the prestigious Festival.

The 'Adipurush' teaser came out last year, however, it did not meet expectations as netizens slammed the makers for questionable VFX effects.

‘Adipurush’ had earlier courted controversy, including boycott calls, when many objected to the depiction of Hindu deities and inferior quality of visual effects in the teaser of the film launched in October.

The magnum opus, has hit the theatres in IMAX and 3D, and it has released in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.
