Adipurush to premiere at Tribeca Film Festival
'Adipurush' writer Manoj Muntashir Shukla has admitted he made a “big mistake” with the film.

'Adipurush' writer Manoj Muntashir Shukla has admitted that writing the film was a bad idea, and he also said that him defending the Hindi film in the immediate aftermath of its disastrous debut was the worst thing he could have done. For the unversed, 'Adipurush', starring Prabhas, Saif Ali Khan and Kriti Sanon, released in theatres in June 2023, and the movie, loosely based on the epic 'Ramayana', was panned left, right and centre for its dialogues and poor VFX.

'Adipurush' also failed to recover its massive reported budget of Rs 600 crore. Manoj Muntashir Shukla has now said that his family became concerned after he started receiving death threats following the film’s release.

“The world may consider you good and tomorrow it may be considered bad but for your family you are a hero," said Manoj Muntashir Shukla, in an interview with Aaj Tak.

"I am not such an insecure person that I would defend my writing skills by saying that I have written well. It’s a 100 per cent mistake. But, there was no bad intention behind that mistake.

“A mistake has been made, a big mistake has been made… I have learned a lot from this accident and it was a great learning process. I will be very careful from now on," he added.

Talking further, he said, "I had absolutely no intention of hurting the religion and causing trouble to Sanatan or to defame Lord Ram or to say something about Hanuman ji which is not there. I would never even think of doing that. Yes, I made a big mistake… I have learned a lot from this accident and it was a great learning process.”

Manoj Muntashir Shukla also said that his biggest mistake was to offer clarifications days after the film's release.

“I should not have spoken at that time. If people are angry with this, then their anger is justified,” he said.

For the unversed, a lot of anger was directed towards the writer for writing scenes in which Lord Hanuman spoke in a "derogatory" language.

Manoj Muntashir Shukla also said that he deserves a "second chance" on the strength of his past work.

“I say this with great pride that today in this country you cannot celebrate Ram Navami, Diwali, Dussehra without my songs," the writer said.
