After Karan Johar's Attack On 'Merry Christmas' Makers, Filmmaker Onir's Fiery Comeback
Filmmaker Onir, who is known for his National Award-winning film 'I Am', took to Twitter to give his take on film clashes at the box office.
Ace filmmaker-producer Karan Johar had recently vented his frustration on Threads app, launching a scathing attack on the makers of Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi-starrer 'Merry Christmas'. KJo’s attack came after the makers of ‘Merry Christmas’ chose the same date of release as his production venture ‘Yodha’ starring Sidharth Malhotra, Raashii Khanna and Disha Patani. For the unversed, both ‘Merry Christmas’ and ‘Yodha’ are slated to release on December 15, 2023. Now, filmmaker Onir took to Twitter to give his take on film clashes at the box office.
Onir, who is known for his National Award-winning film 'I Am', said that filmmakers with big pockets are now choosing to speak about the fraternity but they themselves would never bother if their movie is releasing alongside a smaller indie film.
Taking to Twitter, Onir said, "Big Bollywood releases get so upset when there is another big budget release the same day and they talk about how we should all care for each other in the industry, but don’t think for a second when they deprive a small budget indie film of a tiny number of good shows to survive.”

Earlier, Karan Johar had vented his frustration against the makers of 'Merry Christmas' as he wrote, "Clashing on a date without the courtesy of a phone call is hopefully not the way forward for the studios and producers …. If we don’t stand united in these tough and challenging theatrical days then calling us a fraternity is futile."
'Yodha' is backed by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions and it stars Sidharth Malhotra, Disha Patani and Raashii Khanna in lead roles. 'Yodha' has already been postponed quite a bit.
Talking about 'Merry Christmas', the makers announced the release date of the film along with unveiling new posters featuring Katrina and Vijay, which exude a vintage vibe. In the posters, both Katrina and Vijay can be seen in a slightly serious mood.
‘Merry Christmas’ is Sriram Raghavan's first directorial since the National award-winning ‘Andhadhun’ (2018) starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Tabu and Radhika Apte. The filmmaker is known for his neo-noir thrillers and ‘Merry Christmas’ is being touted as another suspense film with a twist.
