1. Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999)

Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the movie starred Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn in lead roles. The film was released in 1999. The plot of the movie revolves around a newlywed man finding out that his wife is in love with another man, and how he decides to unite them, but somehow fate has something else in store. In the film, Aishwarya Rai played the role of Nandini, and her performance was lauded by critics and audiences. Her chemistry with Salman Khan had also bowled over the audience.

2. Devdas (2002) 

Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the movie starred Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Madhuri Dixit, and Jackie Shroff in lead roles. The movie is based on the 1917 novel of the same name by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay. The plot of the movie revolves around Devdas Mukherjee (SRK), and how he goes on a path of self-destruction after not being able to marry his childhood friend Parvati, played by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. This role also landed Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, a Best Actress accolade at the 48th Filmfare Awards.

3. Guru (2007)

It is fair to say that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has done some of her most commendable work with director Mani Ratnam. 'Guru' stars Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, and Mithun Chakraborty, in leading roles. 'Guru' was rumored to be a biopic of industrial tycoon Dhirubhai Ambani, but Mani Ratnam had repeatedly refuted the claims. In the film, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan had played the role of Sujata Desai, the wife of the character played by Abhishek.

4. Jodhaa Akbar (2008)

Directed by 'Lagaan' fame Ashutosh Gowariker, the film stars Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in lead roles. The film shows how the romance between the Mughal Emperor Akbar and a Hindu Princess Jodhaa Bai of Amber unfolded. For this role, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan had won Best Actress at the 54th Filmfare Awards. 

5. 'Ponniyin Selvan' series (2022 and 2023)

Directed by Mani Ratnam, the film stars an ensemble cast including Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Jayaram, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prakash Raj, Prabhu, R. Sarathkumar, and R Parthiban. The plot revolves around the Chola dynasty and how there is a power struggle going on for the coveted throne. In the film, Aishwarya played the dual role of Nandini and Mandakini Devi. Critics labelled it as Aishwarya Rai's best career performance.
