Akshay Kumar's latest release 'Mission Raniganj' has turned out to be a box office dud after earning just Rs 12.60 crore in its opening weekend. The new Hindi movie opened to an earning of Rs 2.80 crore on Friday, and then it followed it up with collections of Rs 4.80 crore and Rs 5 crore on Saturday and Sunday. However, what comes as a major disappointment for Akshay Kumar is that the new Hindi movie has received generally favourable reviews, and still it has not managed to earn good amount of money.

In the latest entertainment news, Akshay Kumar has explained the light behind his decision of not promoting 'Mission Raniganj' extensively. The actor said that he promoted his movie 'Selfiee' but still it tanked at the box office.

"I promoted Selfie a lot, but it didn’t work. Promotion is the wrong aspect. I didn’t go anywhere to promote OMG 2. It got word-of-mouth promotion. If I promote the film, people will take it for granted, thinking it’s my job to promote my film. But if somebody else appreciates it and tells them to watch it, they will go and watch the film," the Indian Express quoted Akshay Kumar as saying.

Akshay Kumar then drew a parallel to a parent-child relationship, telling a journalist, “If you come and tell me that your son is good at studies, I will think that it’s the father’s love speaking but if your neighbour comes and tells me that his son is a good student, I will believe him.”

“It is the trend. I am doing my job, It is not going to happen if I go to a certain city and talk about my film. Those things don’t work. Content speaks, especially in these kinds of films which are content driven. The films that have a lot of songs, fights – they are different kinds of films. Those work in a different way. This is what I have learnt and I am working accordingly," he added.

Speaking of 'Mission Raniganj', the new Hindi movie also stars Parineeti Chopra, Kumud Mishra, Pavan Malhotra, Ravi Kishan, Varun Badola, and Dibyendu Bhattacharya in pivotal roles.

The new Hindi movie has been directed by Tinu Suresh Desai, while it has been produced by Vashu Bhagnani, Jackky Bhagnani, Deepshikha Deshmukh, and Ajay Kapoor.

For the unversed, 'Mission Raniganj' is based on a real-life incident that happened in Raniganj Coalfields, West Bengal, in 1989. During that time, 64 miners were trapped in a flooded coal mine, and engineer Jaswant Singh Gill ended up risking his life to rescue the miners.
