Akshay Kumar was not at all happy at being called "brand ambassador" of a pan masala brand.

Netizens were left fuming recently after a new pan masala advertisement aired featuring Bollywood superstars Akshay Kumar, Shah Rukh Khan and Ajay Devgn. Fans of Akshay Kumar were not pleased with their favourite star endorsing the product from which he had "stepped back" earlier. Previously, when an advertisement of the same brand aired, there was severe backlash against Akshay Kumar for endorsing a tobacco product. Akshay Kumar had then apologised, saying he would be stepping back from the brand.

However, on Sunday, during the Cricket World Cup 2023 match between India and Australia, a new advertisement aired in which Akshay Kumar could be seen endorsing the brand alongside SRK and Ajay Devgn.

A news portal then shared a post on X, formerly known as Twitter. "#AkshayKumar returns as the ambassador of Vimal Pan Masala; features along with #AjayDevgn and #ShahRukhKhan in the new commercial,” the tweet read.

Akshay Kumar, who recently featured in the new Hindi movie ‘Mission Raniganj’, cleared the air, saying he has not joined the brand once again as its "ambassador".

"‘Returns’ as ambassador? Here’s some fact check for you Bollywood Hungama, if by chance you are interested in things other than fake news. These ads were shot on 13th October, 2021. I have not had anything to do with the brand ever since I publicly announced the discontinuation of the endorsement. They can legally run the already shot ads till the end of next month. Chill and do some real news," Akshay Kumar wrote on X.

For the unversed, earlier Akshay Kumar had publicly apologised for promoting a tobacco brand, saying he would "step back" from the commitment.

In his statement, Akshay had said, "I am sorry. I would like to apologise to you, all my fans and well-wishers. Your reaction over the past few days has deeply affected me. While I have not and will not endorse tobacco, I respect the outpouring of your feelings in light of my association with Vimal Elaichi."

"With all humility, I step back. I have decided to contribute the entire endorsement fee towards a worthy cause. The brand might continue airing the ads till the legal duration of the contract that is binding upon me, but I promise to be extremely mindful in making my future choices," he had added.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Akshay Kumar recently starred in 'Mission Raniganj' alongside Parineeti Chopra.

The movie, which released in theatres on October 6, collected just Rs 12 crore in its opening weekend.
