Akshay Kumar, who will next star in ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’, opened up about how he stays in touch with his past.

Akshay Kumar made his Bollywood debut with a 10-second cameo in a Mahesh Bhatt directorial titled ‘Aaj’, wherein he played a Martial Arts instructor. Akshay Kumar, often called ‘The Khiladi Kumar’ of Bollywood, has showcased his talent across various genres, from action-packed blockbusters to socially relevant dramas and comedies. He gained widespread recognition with the 1992 film ‘Khiladi’. He has since starred in a string of successful films like ‘Mohra’, ‘Main Khiladi Tu Anari’, ‘Hera Pheri’, ‘Namastey London’, ‘Pad Man’, ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’, ‘Good Newwz’, ‘Kesari’, ‘Airlift’, and most recently ‘OMG 2’.

Akshay Kumar, who is now gearing up for the release of his next film ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’, recently appeared alongside Tiger Shroff on Ranveer Allahbadia’s ‘The Ranveer Show’.

While promoting ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’, Akshay Kumar also opened up about how he stays in touch with his past. He also talked about his childhood memories and revealed that he plans to buy his former rented home in Mumbai.

To stay in touch with his humble beginnings, Akshay Kumar revealed that he pays a monthly visit to his school and the houses where he lived with his family before becoming a star.

“Every month, I visit my school, Don Bosco, in the early hours at around 4 am. I also go to my old house in the Sion-Koliwada area in Mumbai. I pay a visit to my old residence at Bandra East, too. I ensure I go inside the Don Bosco Church. The watchman knows and he allows me to go inside. I have no business there par mujhe accha lagta hai wahan jahan, apne purane ghar pe jana. It is imperative for me to remind myself where I come from,” Akshay Kumar said.

The actor, who moved from Delhi’s Chandani Chowk to Mumbai in his childhood, revealed that he is planning to buy an apartment in the building he once lived in with his family.

Akshay Kumar said, “Humara purana ghar rent pe tha, hum 500 rent dete the. Toh abhi suna hai wo building tut rahi hai. Toh maine usko bola hua hai ki mujhe teesra maala kharidna hai kyunki main waha rehta tha. Do bedroom ka flat hai, ban rha hai. Unko bola hua hai ki main kharidna chahta hoon.”

He further said, “Koi hai nahi vahan mera par wo ek rakhna hai. Kyuki mujhe aaj bhi yaad hai hum jab rehte the toh daddy 9-6 kaam pe jaate the. Wo wapas aate the, main aur meri sister window pe khade hoke dekhte the daddy aate the. So that visual is still there. Neeche ek peru ka jhaad tha. Peru ke jhaad se peru todte the. Main jaata hu har mahine to abhi bhi wo peru ka jhaad hai, Anand ka phool hai. Wo tod ke main le aata hoon. I honestly want to be in touch with that. That is where I come from. Aur agar kabhi Delhi gaye toh Chandani Chowk zarur jaana hai.”

Akshay Kumar also said that his closest friends don’t belong to the film industry, and his old friends keep him grounded.

“All my friends are from non-filmy backgrounds. I don’t really have very close friends in Bollywood, of course, Tiger Shroff has become one. We have been shooting together for over a year now. Having said that, I am still very close to my school friends who keep me grounded,” he shared.

Akshay Kumar will next be seen in ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’. Apart from Akshay and Tiger, the movie also features Manushi Chillar, Alaya F, Sonakshi Sinha and Prithviraj Sukumaran in crucial roles. It is directed by Ali Abbas Zafar and will release on April 11, coinciding with Eid 2024.
