Akshay Kumar's latest Hindi film 'Mission Raniganj' released in theatres on Friday (October 6), and the movie earned just a little more than Rs 2.5 crore on the opening day. This is the second release of Akshay Kumar this year to earn this much after 'Selfiee'. After giving a hit in the form of 'OMG 2', fans expected 'Mission Raniganj' to continue the winning streak of Akshay Kumar, however, the collection on the first two days is not a promising sign. In the latest entertainment news, Akshay Kumar has given his take on the box office performance of his recent ventures.

“When I made Toilet – Ek Prem Katha (2017), everybody told me, ‘Yeh koi title hua? Are you mad? Are you telling me that you are making a film on shauchalaya?’. I went ahead and made it. Don't discourage me by making me think how much business my films will do. Give me courage that I should think at least, these kinds of films are made so that we can enlighten the audience that it’s time to change the society," Bollywood Hungama quoted Akshay as saying.

“I made a film on sanitary pads (Pad Man; 2018). Kisi ke baap mein dum nahin tha ki sanitary pad pe film banaye. Koi haath bhi nahin lagata tha pad ko. I won’t name the person but I was standing with someone. We all stood with pads. He also was handed one pad. His PA whispered in my ear, ‘Yeh inke haath mein mat dilao. Accha nahin lagta’," he added.

For the unversed, 'OMG 2', starring Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam, earned more than Rs 150 crore despite facing stiff competition from 'Gadar 2'. The movie was also given 'A' certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

Taking about the 'adults only' certificate, Akshay said, "Well, rules are rules. They (Central Board of Film Certification) felt it was an adult film. But did you guys feel it was an adult film? It was a film that should be shown to youngsters because I made it for them. Thankfully, it’s going to come tomorrow on Netflix. The important thing is that people should know about it.”

Speaking of 'Mission Raniganj', the movie also stars Parineeti Chopra, Kumud Mishra, Pavan Malhotra, Ravi Kishan, Varun Badola, and Dibyendu Bhattacharya in pivotal roles.

It released in theatres on October 6, 2023. The new Hindi movie has been directed by Tinu Suresh Desai while it has been produced by Vashu Bhagnani, Jackky Bhagnani, Deepshikha Deshmukh, and Ajay Kapoor.

For the uninitiated, 'Mission Raniganj' is based on a real-life incident that happened in Raniganj Coalfields, West Bengal, in 1989.

During that time, 64 miners were trapped in a flooded coal mine, and Jaswant Singh Gill ended up risking his life to rescue the miners.
