As the new Hindi movie on Netflix continues to garner a positive response, we have decided to tell you about the real-life Amar Singh Chamkila and what his life was all about.

So without further ado, here is all that you need to know about 'Amar Singh Chamkila'.

Amar Singh Chamkila was born on July 1, 1960. He was named Dhani Ram, and in his initial few days, he worked as a laborer to support his family. However, he then stumbled upon his passion for music, and at the age of 16, he managed to master the harmonium and tumbi. His first breakthrough came when he teamed up with the well-known folk singer Shinda.

The breakthrough in the musical career of Amar Singh Chamkila came when Shinda toured Canada in the 1980s. After Shinda went to Canada, Amar Singh Chamkila recorded four songs with Shinda's partner Sonia, and this made the Punjabi singer a big star.

Quickly after, Chamkila and Sonia had a falling out, and quickly after becoming a phenomenon in Punjab, Chamkila started working with a new singer named Amarjot Kaur. The duo managed to form a formidable partnership. Not many people know but Chamkila used to mostly write his own songs, which often talked about things like affairs, drinking, and drugs.

However, these themes quickly made Chamkika enemy No.1 in Punjab, and when he along with Amarjot was going to perform in Mehsampur, Punjab, the duo was shot as they got out of their car on March 8, 1988, around 2 PM. Unknown assailants on motorcycles shot at them, and they died on the spot.

However, to date, nobody has been caught for the shooting, and no one knows, why exactly did it.
