"Would Question Some...": Amid Criticism, Here's What Rashmika Mandanna Said About Her Character In Ranbir Kapoor's 'Animal'
Here's what Rashmika Mandanna had to say about her character Gitanjali in Sandeep Reddy Vanga's 'Animal'.
Actress Rashmika Mandanna is currently basking in the glory of her latest film 'Animal' directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, which also stars Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, and Triptii Dimri. The movie which is being severely criticised for glorifying toxic masculinity, has earned more than Rs 300 crore and it needs to be seen whether it manages to break the record of Shah Rukh Khan's 'Jawan' to become the highest-grossing Hindi film of all time.
In the latest entertainment news, Rashmika Mandanna who plays the role of Gitanjali in 'Animal', penned a heartfelt note for her character and explained what makes her role truly special.
"Gitanjali. If I were to describe her in a sentence …it would be the only force at home holding her family together. She is pure, real, unfiltered, strong, and raw. At times as an actor, I would question some of Gitanjali’s actions.. And I remember my director telling me - this was their story. Ranvijay’s & Gitanjali’s.. it was their love and passion, their families and their lives - this is who they are. In a world full of all violence, hurt, and unbearable pain - Gitanjali would bring peace trust, and calm. She would pray to her Gods to keep her husband and her kids safe. She was the rock that weathered all the storms," Rashmika wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
"She would do anything in her power for the sake of her family. Gitanjali is absolutely beautiful in my eyes, and in some ways, she is like most women who are standing strong and protecting their families day in and day out..Happy one week to us #Animal team. Guys. Thank you all for all the love.. it’s what keeps me going and makes me work harder with every film. Big hugs to you all too," she added.

For the unversed, 'Animal' was released in theatres on December 1, and it opened to mixed reviews.
However, as the days went by, the new Hindi film started being severely criticised for its portrayal of toxic masculinity.
'Animal' directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, minted Rs 23.50 crore across all languages on Friday and now the total nett domestic collection of the film stands at a massive Rs 361.08 crore.
With this, 'Animal' has gone past the lifetime collection of 'Sanju' to become the highest-grossing film of Ranbir Kapoor's career.
The movie has already surpassed the collection of some of the biggest hits of 2023 – ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’, ‘The Kerala Story’, and ‘Tiger 3’.
This box office performance of ‘Animal’ is huge considering it is an ‘A’ (adults only) film and has a runtime of more than three hours.
It can be safely said that ‘Animal’ is expected to rule the ticket counters until Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Dunki’ releases in theatres on December 21. A day later, Prabhas’ ‘Salaar’ will also be releasing in theatres.
