"Was Too Dark For Him": Sandeep Reddy Vanga Reveals Ranveer Singh Turned Down 'Kabir Singh'
Sandeep Reddy Vanga revealed that Ranveer Singh turned down the movie and not everybody was in favour of casting Shahid Kapoor as the lead in 'Kabir Singh'.
Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga is all set to entertain audiences with his latest offering 'Animal', starring Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, and Rashmika Mandanna. Sandeep Reddy Vanga has just made two movies before 'Animal', and both of them were huge hits. First, he made 'Arjun Reddy' in Telugu, and then he remade his first film in Hindi, titled 'Kabir Singh'. In the latest entertainment news, Sandeep Reddy Vanga looked back at the difficult process of remaking Arjun Reddy in Hindi.
The filmmaker said that he would never do a remake ever again, revealing that not everybody was in favour of casting Shahid Kapoor as the lead in 'Kabir Singh'.
"I was continuously getting calls from Mumbai to do the remake. First, it was pitched to Ranveer Singh. I wanted to do it with him. But finally, he decided he will not do it, because it was too dark for him at that time,” Vanga said in an interview with iDream Media.
The director also said that if 'Kabir Singh' hadn't worked then it would have been a big shame for him as a director, especially after the buzz 'Arjun Reddy' had generated.
"All industry producers, distributors, everybody saw Arjun Reddy," he said. The director revealed that after Ranveer passed, Shahid was approached for the role in 'Kabir Singh', but people weren’t convinced.
“Shahid’s track record was a concern; none of his solo films had done Rs 100 crore then, his highest was Rs 65 crore. They used to say Rs 55 crore, Rs 65 crore is the kind of business Telugu movies do. Why are you doing it with this guy? If it was Ranveer, the box office would be higher. But I was always sure about Shahid, he’s a fantastic actor,” Vanga said.
For the unversed, 'Kabir Singh' released in 2019 and the movie is the biggest hit of Shahid Kapoor's career.
The movie made on a budget of Rs 36 crore, went on to do a global business of more than Rs 380 crore.
In his latest interview, Sandeep Reddy Vanga also said that he is expecting 'Animal' to make more than Rs 50 crore on the opening day, and the global box office in the first three days could cross Rs 300 crore.
Sandeep Reddy Vanga's 'Arjun Reddy' was made on a budget of Rs 3 crore, and it did a business of Rs 50 crore.
Talking about 'Animal', the film will be releasing on December 1, and it will be clashing with Meghna Gulzar's 'Sam Bahadur', starring Vicky Kaushal, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra.
