"Defining Moment": Anurag Kashyap Says Shah Rukh Khan's 'Pathaan' Broke "Curse On Bollywood"
'Gangs of Wasseypur' director Anurag Kashyap has credited Shah Rukh Khan's 'Pathaan' for bringing back happy times to Bollywood.
2023 has been a tremendous year for Bollywood as several movies tasted success. Films like 'Pathaan', 'Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar', 'Gadar 2', 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani', 'OMG 2', 'Jawan', 'Tiger 3', 'Zara Hatke Zara Bachke', 'SatyaPrem Ki Katha', '12th Fail' and 'Animal' did remarkable numbers at the box office. Bollywood went through a lean patch in the last two years, but 2023 turned out to be a game changer. In the latest entertainment news, 'Gangs of Wasseypur' director Anurag Kashyap has credited Shah Rukh Khan's 'Pathaan' for bringing back happy times to Bollywood.
For the unversed, 'Pathaan' was released in January 2023, and the movie made more than Rs 1,000 crore at the box office globally. SRK's other release 'Jawan' also did a business of more than Rs 1,000 crore worldwide.
Speaking to Pinkvilla, Anurag Kashyap said, "I think it has been great. Bollywood’s curse is lifted which is very good news because distributors are happy, studios are happy, everybody is happy. When they are happy, I know my projects will get greenlit."
Anurag Kashyap then further agreed that the momentum was set by 'Pathaan' at the beginning of 2023, and this did not fade throughout the year.
“The biggest moment of the year was Pathaan breaking the curse. There was a curse on Bollywood and Shah Rukh Khan came and said, ‘Hataao isko.’ That was the defining moment (of the year)," said Anurag Kashyap.
The latest addition of growing list of Bollywood hits in 2023 is Ranbir Kapoor's 'Animal'. The movie which released in theatres on December 1, is poised to do a business of more than Rs 500 crore in India.
2023 might see another SRK hit as his third release of the year would be hitting the cinemas on December 21. 'Dunki' will mark the first collaboration between Shah Rukh Khan and Rajkumar Hirani.
'Dunki' also stars Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal and Boman Irani.
Talking about Anurag Kashyap, the actor is currently busy with the promotions of his upcoming film 'Kennedy' starring Sunny Leone and Rahul Bhat.
The film had earlier premiered at the Cannes Film Festival 2023.
