'Gadar 2', which released in the theatres on August 11, continues to wreak havoc at the box office, having collected more than Rs 400 crore in India, and it needs to be seen whether it manages to break the record of Shah Rukh Khan-starrer 'Pathaan' to become the highest-grossing Hindi movie in India. In the latest entertainment news, actress Ameesha Patel spoke to Salil Acharya on B4U show Star Stop, regarding the success of the film.

Ameesha Patel also revealed that when 'Gadar 2' was being made, many people asked for it to be released on an OTT platform.

"Gadar 2 jab ban rahi thi, bahut logo ne kaha ki aap log pagal ho, kyun bana rahe ho waise bhi koi theatre jaata nahi. Lots of people asked me, you will release the movie on OTT right? I said are you mad because this is a kind of a film that has to have a cinematic 70mm experience and they were like log to ja he nahi rahe theatre, chalo dekhte hai," Ameesha Patel said.

"But my answer to all this is that bhaag daudh ke they went in huge numbers to see 'Gadar 2' because it is a tsunami. But if you make a good film with good family values, good music, and a universally good film which has nothing to be embarrassed about, when you make a wholesome film, it will run. Gadar is an emotion and I am glad we did not disappoint," she added.

Talking about 'Gadar 2', the Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel, and Utkarsh Sinha-starrer collected Rs 10 crore on Wednesday, taking the total collection to Rs 410.70 crore.

‘Gadar 2’ saw a dip in its numbers on its second Monday and Tuesday, minting Rs 13.50 crore and Rs 12.10 crore, respectively. But even the decline in its numbers couldn’t stop the movie from shattering more box office records as it crossed the Rs 400 crore mark on Tuesday.

‘Gadar 2’ revolves around a father Tara Singh (Sunny Deol), who would go to any length to bring back his son Jeete (Utkarsh Sharma) from Pakistan, where he has been held captive by army general Hamid Iqbal (Manish Wadhwa).

‘Gadar 2’ is the sequel to the 2001 hit ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’, which was also directed by Anil Sharma. It was a blockbuster hit in 2001, when it clashed against the acclaimed hit ‘Lagaan’, which starred Aamir Khan. It finished with Rs 130 crore at the global box office.

‘Gadar 2’ also stars Manish Wadhwa, Gaurav Chopra, Simrat Kaur, Luv Sinha, Rakesh Bedi and Dolly Bindra.
