Bobby Deol’s Shocking Revelation, Says He Initially Felt “Disgusted” While Playing His Role In ‘Animal’
Bobby Deol recently revealed that he used to feel disgusted while playing the character of Abrar in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s ‘Animal’.
It has been over two weeks since the release of Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s latest directorial venture ‘Animal’, starring Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role. However, the ongoing debate about the problematic themes in the movie is still on. While some people are finding the movie’s plot nonsensical, misogynistic, and problematic, others are saying that ‘Animal’ is one of the best Bollywood films they have seen in recent times. The film, which revolves around a troubled father-son relationship, also stars Bobby Deol, Anil Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Triptii Dimri, and Shakti Kapoor in key roles.
Despite being heavily criticised for its content, ‘Animal’ has become a massive box office hit. The new Hindi movie has also gotten many of its stars into the limelight. One of them being Bobby Deol, who has received immense praise for his role of an antagonist in ‘Animal’.
Bobby Deol, who recently attended Film Companion's Actors Roundtable, admitted that he initially used to feel “disgusted” while playing the character of Abrar in ‘Animal’.
“Yes, I used to feel disgusted with myself when I started shooting for it. But then I realised I'm playing a character. Why am I feeling so disgusted, so icky? Fir maine unhi logon ke sath jinke sath scene mein jo bhi kiya hai, fir unke sath hum shaam ko sath mein baith ke khana kha rahe hain. Everything is normal,” Bobby Deol said.
Vikrant Massey, who was also a part of the roundtable, justified Bobby Deol's statement. Vikrant Massey then spoke about how Bobby Deol played the negative role in his film ‘Love Hostel’ as well.
“He was very scary in the film. He was killing 20 people in the day aur raat ko hum dinner kar rahe hain sath mein baith ke and we're talking about farming. I was like, ‘Oh my god!’,” Vikrant Massey shared.
For the unversed, Bobby Deol plays the role of Abrar Haque in ‘Animal’, and he is shown to be an arch nemesis of Ranbir Kapoor’s character Ranvijay. In one of the scenes, Abrar is shown to be sexually assaulting his third wife.
‘Animal’, which has been accused of glorifying misogyny and toxic masculinity by several social media users and critics, is doing immensely well at the box office.
The film is now looking to go past the box office collection of Sunny Deol's 'Gadar 2'. The new Hindi movie, which released in cinemas on December 1 alongside Vicky Kaushal’s ‘Sam Bahadur’, has already made more than Rs 500 crore in India.
It remains to be seen how ‘Animal’ performs this week after Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Dunki’ and Prabhas’ ‘Salaar’ releases in theatres. ‘Dunki’ will be released in cinemas on December 21, while ‘Salaar’ will hit theatres on December 22.
