India is currently celebrating the historic achievement of the Chandrayaan-3 Moon mission landing on the lunar south pole, but amidst all this glory, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is being ridiculed on social media, and director Rakesh Roshan is also trending on Twitter. Now, you would be wondering what is the connection between a politician, and a director, and why both of them are trending when the country is celebrating a historic achievement?

Well, the reason is Mamata Banerjee's hilarious gaffe at an event in Kolkata. Speaking before the Chandrayaan-3's Vikram Lander reached the moon, Mamata Banerjee ended up confusing astronaut Rakesh Sharma with actor-turned-filmmaker Rakesh Roshan, who is also the father of Hrithik Roshan.

"On behalf of the people of West Bengal, I send my advance congratulations to ISRO. Scientists must get credit. Credit must go to the country. When Rakesh Roshan [sic] landed on the moon, former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi asked him how India looked from there," Mamata Banerjee said in Bengali, during an event.

For the uninitiated, Rakesh Sharma who is an Indian Air Force Pilot, was the first Indian to travel to space in 1984. Upon reaching, he had spoken to the then-Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi.

Indira Gandhi had famously asked him, "upar se Bharat kaisa dikhta hai aapko," and to this question, Rakesh Sharma had quoted poet Iqbal, saying: "Saare jahaan se achcha."

Mamata Banerjee is not the only politician to be involved in a Chandrayaan-3 related goof-up. News agency PTI on Wednesday reported that a Rajasthan minister congratulated the "passengers" of Chandrayaan-3 mission despite it being an unmanned mission.

"If we are successful and make a safe landing, I salute the passengers, Our country has taken a step further in science and space research. I congratulate the countrymen for this," Rajasthan Sports Minister Ashok Chandna said as quoted by news agency PTI.

India made history on Wednesday by becoming the first country to land a spacecraft on the moon's south pole.
