“Waste Of Resources”: Farah Khan Slams Bollywood's Entourage Costs
Farah Khan said that Bollywood is grappling with rising entourage cost of actors, which has been burdening producers nowadays.
Indian choreographer and director Farah Khan, who is known for helming movies like ‘Main Hoon Na’, ‘Om Shanti Om’, ‘Tees Maar Khan’, and ‘Happy New Year’, recently said that Bollywood is grappling with rising entourage cost of actors. As per her, this has been burdening producers nowadays. In a recent interview, Farah Khan said that she is now witnessing actors and actresses coming on a film set with a team of nine people, who end up adding nothing to the screen.
In an interview with Twin Encounter, Farah Khan said, “Bura change yeh hai ki pehle bahut zyada relationship pe chalti thi industry. Toh agar mujhe kuch chahiye hota tha toh main actor ko directly phone karti thi. Ab ye hoga ki pehle aap unke manager ke sub-manager ko milo. Phir woh manager milega, uske baad unki agency milegi. So it has become very clinical. Interpersonal relations thode kharab ho gaye.”
Speaking about the entourage costs, Farah Khan said, “That is a waste of resources. Woh film mein dikhta nahi hai. Woh cost. Toh I think that needs to be controlled a bit. Producers pe bahut bhari padta hain.”
She also said that an actress ends up bringing nine people along with her to a film set, while an actor brings eight people with him.
For the unversed, ever since Akshay Kumar's ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ and Ajay Devgn’s ‘Maidaan’ bombed at the box office, there has been a spotlight on the rising production costs of a movie.
Earlier, an Indian Express report had stated that the rising entourage cost is ending up inflating budgets and risking a film’s recovery.
Recently, actress Kriti Sanon also spoke about the rising entourage cost.
In an interview with Film Companion, journalist Anupama Chopra first mentioned how she observed the end credits slate of a “big film”, headlined by a “massive male star”, where he had three people cooking for him – two cooks and one chef.
To this question, Kriti Sanon said, “I don’t know which film you are talking about, but whichever it is, those are too many cooks to begin with!”
For the unversed, Farah Khan made her directorial debut 20 years ago with Shah Rukh Khan, Sushmita Sen, Amrita Rao and Zayed Khan-starrer ‘Main Hoon Na’.
