Director Siddharth Anand Trolled For Saying ‘Fighter’ Flopped Because “90% Of Indians Haven't Travelled In Planes”
'Fighter' director Siddharth Anand is being brutally trolled on social media after his bizarre excuse to defend the film's below-par performance at the box office.
'Fighter', starring Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone and Anil Kapoor, had high expectations but to everyone's shock, the new Hindi movie has been performing below par at the box office. The new Hindi movie is yet to cross the Rs 150 crore mark, and it needs to be seen whether it manages to go past the Rs 200 crore mark. However, it can be said with certainty that 'Fighter' won't be able to repeat the success of director Siddharth Anand's previous releases -- 'War', and 'Pathaan'.
In the latest entertainment news, Siddharth Anand defended the underwhelming box office performance of 'Fighter', saying 90 per cent of Indians have not taken a flight, hence it is hard for them to relate to the aerial action sequences in the film.
"Another thing is the genre. Fighter is a huge leap for a filmmaker. It’s a space that is unexplored and absolutely new. It has no reference point for the audience. They are like, ‘What are these planes doing?'," Siddharth Anand said in an interview with Galatta Plus.
“There is a huge percentage of our country, I would say, 90 per cent, who have not flown in planes, who have not been to an airport, so how would they know what’s happening in the movie? This is my dissection. They felt this is a little alien. They didn’t understand what kind of exhilaration they are supposed to feel in the air action, so there is a certain initial disconnect. But once you enter the theatre, you realise this is such a basic film," he added.
However, this comment has not gone down well with the netizens, and they have been trolling the director left, right and centre.

At the global box office, ‘Fighter’ has crossed the Rs 250 crore mark in seven days.
‘Fighter’ is the second consecutive film for Hrithik Roshan which has had an underwhelming performance at the box office, despite a positive word of mouth. His last release ‘Vikram Vedha’ tanked at the box office, after earning just Rs 78.66 crore in India.
‘Fighter’, presented by Viacom18 Studios in association with Marflix Pictures, is the third collaboration between Hrithik Roshan and Siddharth Anand after ‘Bang Bang’ and ‘War’. The new Hindi movie is also the third collaboration between Deepika Padukone and Siddharth Anand after ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’ and ‘Pathaan’.
