Box Office Collection: ‘Fighter’ Races Against Time To Enter Rs 200 Crore Club
‘Fighter’, starring Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone and Anil Kapoor, is struggling to hit the Rs 200 crore mark at the domestic box office.
When Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone joined forces for Siddharth Anand’s ‘Fighter’, everyone predicted it will be a box office hit. Expectations were especially high after Siddharth Anand delivered a blockbuster in the form of ‘Pathaan’ in 2023. However, the underwhelming box office performance of the new Hindi movie has left the industry and fans stunned. ‘Fighter’, co-starring Anil Kapoor, Karan Singh Grover, Akshay Oberoi, and Sanjeeda Shaikh, is struggling to even enter the Rs 200 crore club in India. The new Hindi film was released in theatres on January 25 and enjoyed an extended Republic Day weekend.
As per early estimates posted by industry tracker Sacnilk, ‘Fighter’ registered its lowest single-day haul yet on Wednesday, which was the 14th day of its release. ‘Fighter’ minted just Rs 2.75 crore on Wednesday.
Hence, the total nett domestic collection of ‘Fighter’ now stands at Rs 184.50 crore in India, and it still needs more than Rs 15 crore to enter the coveted Rs 200 crore club.
It is looking difficult that the film will be able to enter the Rs 200 crore club as screens of ‘Fighter’ will get reduced significantly starting this Friday as Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon-starrer ‘Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya’ is slated to release in cinemas.
Globally, ‘Fighter’ has gone past the Rs 300 crore mark, and it is the second Indian movie after ‘HanuMan’ to achieve the feat in 2024. ‘Fighter’ is nearing the Rs 330 crore mark in terms of worldwide box office collection.
Earlier, Siddharth Anand had defended the underwhelming box office performance of ‘Fighter’, saying 90 per cent of Indians have not taken a flight, hence it is hard for them to relate to the aerial action sequences in the film.
“Another thing is the genre. Fighter is a huge leap for a filmmaker. It’s a space that is unexplored and absolutely new. It has no reference point for the audience. They are like, ‘What are these planes doing?',” Siddharth Anand said in an interview with Galatta Plus.
“There is a huge percentage of our country, I would say, 90 per cent, who have not flown in planes, who have not been to an airport, so how would they know what’s happening in the movie? This is my dissection. They felt this is a little alien. They didn’t understand what kind of exhilaration they are supposed to feel in the air action, so there is a certain initial disconnect. But once you enter the theatre, you realise this is such a basic film,” he added.
