‘Gadar 2’ Director Anil Sharma’s Big Revelation About Cast And Crew’s Salaries Will Leave You Shocked
Anil Sharma’s ‘Gadar 2’ has become one of this year’s biggest hits but making the new Hindi movie was not an easy task for the director.
‘Gadar 2’, starring Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel and Utkarsh Sharma in the lead roles, has been grabbing headlines since the new Hindi movie was announced. The Anil Sharma directorial, which released in theatres on August 11 alongside Akshay Kumar’s ‘OMG 2’, has been receiving immense love from the audience. ‘Gadar 2’ has already crossed the Rs 500 crore mark in India and is battling to beat the highest-grossing Hindi movie of all time – Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Pathaan’. Amid the buzz around ‘Gadar 2’, the team of the film has been hogging the limelight for their many headline-making statements during interviews.
As we speak about their interviews, we can’t forget to mention Anil Sharma’s latest interaction with Instant Bollywood. Anil Sharma, who has been open about working with a limited budget on ‘Gadar 2’, revealed more details about how they managed cast and crew’s salaries.
The new Hindi movie, made on a budget of Rs 60 crore, has already earned more than Rs 500 crore in India.
In his interview with Instant Bollywood, the filmmaker firstly clarified that he isn’t pointing fingers at anybody when he says that he didn’t have an ideal budget for ‘Gadar 2’, and admitted that the new Hindi movie was green-lit at a difficult time for the Bollywood industry.
Anil Sharma said, “Gadar is a brand, the actors are a brand, but the industry wasn’t doing so well at the time; that’s how things work. They couldn’t give me what I wanted, but still, they gave me Rs 60 crore. It wasn’t enough, but it was a lot, considering the situation. All of us, the entire unit, we took minimum wages to cut costs. Wages naa ke barabar liye sab logon ne. We took enough to survive and provide for our families, that’s it.”
The director also revealed that they did not have money to spend on VFX, so they opted for shooting real action-packed scenes, which was far more time consuming.
He further said, “Crowds bhi pata nahi kahan se laaye. Logon se request kar kar ke, free mein sansthaon se laaye. Sirf khana denge aur kuch nahi denge, 5000-6000 ka crowd.” And people agreed, due to the love they had for the first film, the director said.
Anil Sharma also said that Zee Studios initially gave a budget of around Rs 40 crore, even though it should’ve ideally been in the Rs 100 crore range. But later, when everybody realised that there was a market for the new Hindi movie, the budget was finalised at Rs 60 crore.
