Godman Asaram Bapu Sends Legal Notice To Makers Of Manoj Bajpayee's 'Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai'

Manoj Bajpayee's upcoming movie 'Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai' has landed into trouble after incarcerated self-styled godman Asaram has reportedly taken offense to the movie, which is said to be inspired by true events. The new Hindi movie features Manoj Bajpayee as a lawyer who is fighting a case against a godman who is accused of raping a minor.
For the unversed, Asaram is currently serving a life sentence after being convicted of a similar crime.
The trailer for 'Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai' came out on Monday and it showed Manoj Bajpayee playing PC Solanki, who happens to be the same lawyer who fought for the minor in the Asaram case.
As per ETimes, Asaram has slapped a legal notice on the makers through his charitable trust and he has asked the courts to issue "prohibitory" orders against the promotion and release of the film.
As per the report, the lawyers for the godman have claimed that the film is "highly objectionable" and "defamatory" towards their client. They also said that the movie has the potential to "tarnish his reputation and hit sentiments of his devotees."
"Yes, we have got the notice and our lawyers will decide the next move. We have made a biopic on PC Solanki and I had bought the rights from him to make this film," 'Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai' producer Asif Shaikh of Practical Productions as saying.
The official synopsis of the movie states: "An ordinary lawyer is out to fight an extraordinary case! But can he win against a powerful godman accused of assaulting a minor and deliver justice to the victim? Find out in Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai, A ZEE5 Original Film inspired by true events. Premieres 23rd May 2023.”
The new Hindi movie would be releasing on ZEE5 on May 23, 2023.
