Actor Gufi Paintal died on Monday due to age-related health issues. He was 79. The actor was famous for playing the role of ‘Shakuni Mama’ in BR Chopra's 'Mahabharat', which had aired in 1980. In an official statement, the actor's family said: "With profound grief we announce the sad demise of our father Mr Gufi Paintal (Shakuni Mama). He passed away peacefully this morning surrounded by family.”

Gufi's nephew Hiten Paintal also confirmed the development to The Indian Express. “He passed away today around 9 am. He had a heart failure. He was 79 years old," he said.

As per several reports, the actor was keeping unwell for a long time, and he was admitted to the hospital on May 31 after his health worsened.

Gufi Paintal also directed a few TV shows and he also helmed a movie titled 'Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu'.

He also worked as an associate director, casting director and production designer with BR Films.

The actor was a brother of popular comedian Paintal, who starred in movies like 'Satte Pe Satta', 'Rafoo Chakkar', 'Parichay' and others. 

Gufi Paintal's prominent movie roles include 'Dillagi', Des Pardes', 'Daava' and 'Samrat and Co'.

He also played the role of Akshay Kumar’s maternal uncle in the 1994 movie 'Suhaag'. 

He also made appearances in TV shows like 'Bharat Ka Veer Putra – Maharana Pratap', 'Mrs Kaushik Ki Paanch Bahuein', 'Karmaphal Daata Shani' and 'Karn Sangini'.
