Javed Akhtar slammed a troll who falsely accused him of body-shaming Rohit Sharma.

Renowned lyricist Javed Akhtar recently lauded Virat Kohli’s performance in India’s Champions Trophy semi-final win against Australia. However, a false accusation by a troll claiming he fat-shamed Indian captain Rohit Sharma triggered a strong response from him. Javed Akhtar took to X (formerly Twitter) to praise Virat and Team India’s performance, writing, “Once again, Virat has proved that he is the strongest pillar of today’s Indian cricket edifice!!! Hats off!!” In response, a user asked if Rohit Sharma should then be considered "the heaviest pillar" and accused Javed Akhtar of body-shaming the Indian skipper.

Angered by the baseless claim, Javed Akhtar hit back with a sharp rebuttal, “Shut up you cockroach. I have great respect for Rohit sharma and all the great India cricketers of Test history . What kind of a neech And pathatic lair you are that you are claiming that I have ever said a word against dignity of a great player like Rohit . Kabhi socho tum itnay ghatia aur ganday aadmi kyon ho.”

This exchange came in the wake of a controversy sparked by Congress leader Shama Mohamed, who criticized Rohit Sharma's fitness. She had tweeted, “Rohit Sharma is fat for a sportsman! He needs to lose weight! And of course, he is the most unimpressive captain India has ever had! What is so world-class about him compared to his predecessors? He is a mediocre captain as well as a mediocre player who got lucky to be the captain of India.” Facing severe backlash, she later deleted the post.

This wasn’t the first time Javed Akhtar found himself in a social media storm. After celebrating India’s win against Pakistan in an earlier Champions Trophy match, he was met with communal remarks. One troll commented, “Javed, Babar ka baap Kohli hai. Say, ‘Jai Shree Ram.’”

To this, Javed Akhtar responded, “Main toh sirf yeh kahoonga ke tum ek neech insaan ho aur neech hi maroge. Tum kya jano desh prem kya hota hai?”

Meanwhile, India’s semi-final triumph over Australia has set them up for the Champions Trophy final on March 9. With Virat Kohli’s crucial half-century, standout performances from Shreyas Iyer and Hardik Pandya, and KL Rahul sealing the victory with a six, the team now eyes the ultimate prize.
