Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut, who started her political stint in 2024 by winning the Lok Sabha seat from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi constituency on a BJP ticket, has candidly admitted that she’s still adjusting to her new life as a politician. She also said that she isn’t exactly enjoying it yet. Speaking on the Atman in Ravi podcast on YouTube, Kangana opened up about her political journey so far, revealing it’s been far from what she expected.

Kangana Ranaut joined the BJP in March 2024 after receiving an offer to step into politics. While the move may have surprised some, she took it as an opportunity to explore uncharted territory.

“I’m getting a hang of it. I wouldn’t say that I am enjoying it (politics). It’s a very different kind of work, more like social service. This hasn’t been my background. I’ve never thought of serving people,” she shared.

The Bollywood actress and politician explained the unexpected challenges that come with the role, admitting that she often finds herself approached with hyper-local issues.

“I’ve fought for women’s rights, but that’s different... Somebody’s naali (drain) is broken, and I’m like, ‘But I am an MP and these people are coming to me with panchayat-level problems’. They don’t care. When they see you, they come to you with problems like MLAs, broken roads, and I tell them that’s a state government issue, and they say, ‘You have money, you use your own money,’” she added.

When asked if she sees herself becoming Prime Minister someday, Kangana was quick to shoot down the idea.

She said, “I don’t think I’m competent to be the PM of India, nor do I have the necessary passion or inclination. Social work has never been my background. I’ve lived a very selfish kind of life. I want to have a big house, a big car, I want to have diamonds. I want to look good. That’s the kind of life I’ve lived. This is a kind of genesis for me. I don’t know what purpose God chose me for, but I don’t see my life as this grand sacrifice… I don’t fancy that kind of life, and I don’t wish that upon anyone… I don’t have it in me.”

Kangana secured her Mandi seat with a margin of 74,755 votes over Congress candidate Vikramaditya Singh. A day after her win, she made headlines again when she was slapped by a CISF officer at Chandigarh airport. She later shared a video to reassure fans she was safe and unharmed.

Meanwhile, on the film front, Kangana Ranaut was last seen in ‘Emergency’. She’s now gearing up for her Hollywood debut in ‘Blessed Be The Evil’, a horror film produced by Lions Movies. The film will star Teen Wolf’s Tyler Posey and Scarlet Rose Stallone, and is set to begin production in New York later this year.
